GOOD HOME AVAILABLE
« on: June 06, 2008, 05:33:04 PM »

Not sure if this is the right place, a friend recommended this site to me.  I just lost Dennis my 13 year old border collie, old age.  Before that i went through it with Stevie, 17.  My partner and I love border collies, we fully understand them and how they should be handled, particularly when they become household pets when we all know where they should really be, on a farm doing what they were bred for.  But they can't choose where they end up so hopefully the poor things get an owner who understands why they can be difficult to begin with.

We now have a loving home to offer to a border collie.  We live in a flat and the charities in Dorset won't look at us because of this  and because at least one of us dares to leave the house alone for more than an hour a day!  we really don't want to pay out to a breeder when there ARE dogs needing good homes, we would rather give the money to the home we get him from.   Our vet has said he'd give us a reference if necessary.

I work 4 days a week, my partner doesn't.  Our hobby and life revolves around hiking, all year round, well, i suppose since we never had children  our lives revolve around our dog - which we are missing right now!  We live near good clean beaches, for daily walkies, and are within 1/2 hour drive of both New Forest and darkest rural Dorset.  He will have his own bed and everything he needs - we would never even have gone out for a pub lunch without our boy coming too!

Anyway, if there is a border collie in need somewhere then perhaps we can help save at least one of these fantastic dogs.
I should say that any doggie coming to us is in for the life of Lord Muck!

Hi thanks for all the swift replies.  I did try the border collie rescue, and it was a no from them as well, they prefer rural locations, and though in Dorset, Poole, we are I suppose a town!  Doesn't matter that we are a seaside town and we live practically on the beach.

I'll have a look at the links you've pointed me to and hopefully we can help a dog in need that way.  We don't mind having to travel some distance, we'd just make a short break out of it.

Thanks, yes we have tried most of our locals but here in Poole and Bournemouth they have a policy of no garden no dog.

When you consider the frightening amounts of houses being demolished and flats going up in these two towns, and then consider where we live, sea, sand, rural location - this seems absolutely ridiculous.  You have to be very wealthy to afford to buy a house here, so all the families are going into flats - these are the families that would love to adopt a dog.

But still, we have had a positive reply from the Border Collie rescue and I'm going to ring them today to discuss a possible adoption, arrange to go and make sure the dog likes us, andits all thanks to this site - so a big thank you!

Yes, everything crossed!  Today, we are so lost without Den and its such a nice day, we are taking someone else's dog out for a hike!  This poor spaniel is only 2 and rarely goes out for a long walk, lets just hope she will behave!  She might be lucky and get a pub lunch too!

Just a quick update and a very big thank you to everyone who posted on this thread.

On Saturday we are going to collect our new boy, a rescue border collie, 14 months old.  He's called Taz.

We are really excited, lets hope he likes us!  An excuse for me to go on a shopping spree for all his bits and pieces!

Thank you so much and we will post some photos of him enjoying his new home at the beach!

Hi everyone.  Just to say we collected Taz today, we think he likes us, we love him to bits!  He's everything we wanted.  He was really good in the car on the way home and before we took him home we stopped at the local beach - he went wild!  We're not sure if he's ever seen the beach before, but he loves it.  We can have him off the lead for a good run because he comes back immediately he is called.  Never on the street or anything like that though.

At the moment he is busy chewing a huge roasted knuckle bone and picking out all the marrow bone.

We've already taken a few piccies of him investigating, and will post them on here in a day or so.

He's met Mojo our african grey and has been warned off with a peck on the nose - respect quickly learnt, and Mo will start calling him in a few days and they should bond nicely and keep each other company when we have to go out.

He loves our bed!  and the settee.  but he has been taught by his former owners what "off" means.  I bet when we wake up in themorning, he's in with us!

Anyway just off for evening walkies in the  local country park and woods now, so I'll say cheerio - but thanks to everyone who helped with this!
