Legislation for council tenants!

Wandsworth Council has introduced legislation requiring new council flat residents to microchip their pet dogs or face eviction.

Dogs owned by tenants moving into the south-west London borough will undergo the procedure for free as part of a measure designed to increase controls on canine ownership.

Council leader Edward Lister told BBC London: "We have got to get a grip on the problem.

"Ninety-nine per cent of our tenants are totally responsible about their animals but there is this small element which we have got to get a grip on."

Mr Lister claimed the move will help restore public confidence following recent dog attacks. It is also expected to prevent local youngsters from instigating fights between animals on council housing estates.

The legislation's scope will be gradually be expanded over the next year to encompass all 16,000 council tenants in Wandsworth.

Microchipping can help owners or authorities to trace the identity of dog in the case of a disappearance or attack.

All dogs SHOULD BE VACCINATED AND TAGGED AND MICROCHIPPED by law!!!
