We really do need to step up this campaign, i just cannot believe why people leave their dogs tied up outside supermarkets at anytime and especially in soaring heat like is is at the moment.

I went shopping this afternoon and found this loving very friendly bitch laying flat out on the pavemet tied up. I waited for a while for the owner to come out but didn't see anyone, so i tucked a business card with some advice written on the back in the dogs collar and waited.
The dog was getting loads of attention and then a member of staff from the Morrison's supermarket in Erith came out, saw the dog and went and got her a bowl of water, when he returned he also had a female member of staff with him and took the card out from the collar and started to read it, i went over to them and told them it was me that had put the card there, by this time a crowd had started to gather around the dog, and judging by the look of horror on their faces when i told them about dog theft they were all totally not aware of what is going on in this country.
Anyway the female member of staff said that she was going to go back in the store and put an announcement over the loud speaker for the owner to return to their dog.
I didn't actually see the owner take their dog but i went back into the supermarket and returned their water to them and also thanked them for their help. They told me that they do try to discourage it as some dogs that are left outside intimidate shoppers going in and also in hot weather they do not like any dogs left tied up outside either.

She then went on to tell that a few weeks ago a lady had parked just outside the entrance with the back window wound right down and left a sleeping baby their by itself, when questioned by the supermarket and advising her of the dangers her reply was but i was only gone 5 minutes!

As we know it only takes seconds to steal!

I would like to say thankyou to Morrisons @ Erith today for their help.

We really do need to spread the word and quickly.

Karen

Good for Morrisons.  I know I see it all the time where I live and when I tell the owner about dog theft they look at me in amazement or think I am making the story up.  Honestly it is so frustrating.

Well done Karen for bringing the shop's attention to it as well as the stupid dog owner.

Word is spreading bit sadly it takes time to reach all dog owners.,but we at Alfies will get there.

Brilliant news that shops are taking dog theft into consideration. Karen you should go back and ask them to put up an awareness poster. Justine

PLEASE CAN WE ALL HAVE THE AWARENESS POSTERS IN OUR CARS READY TO PUT UP WHEREVER WE CAN, this will really help, I drive around with all the dogs posters in my car, ready with my staple gun loaded and ready to hit the nearest wooden post that I can find!!! Karen, do you think that Scooby could produce a 2 to a page awareness poster for such occasions as when a dog is left outside a shop? Justine

Well done Karen & well done Morrisons.
It amazes me that with all the recent publicity created with high profile missing dogs such as Debbie's and Lionel Blair's and with regular items on shows like The Paul O'Grady Show, that people still don't realise that dog theft is a problem.
It's the "it won't happen to me" mentality that needs to be changed.

Here, here Scooby that is the typical mentality.

I will be giving talks at all the W.I 's ( there is more to the association than just making jam) in my area on theft awareness, protecting your dog etc.
Of course I will produce Debbie's letters and Alfies Hand outs.

Is anybody prepared to do this in their area ?  Even if they have the main speaker for the evening they will squeeze you for 15mins.

Love,
Jess x

I have a tendency of making a nuisance of myself wherever I go, I always speak out, not too sure if I could do a public speech as such, but I do my bit on a regular basis. Justine

DOG THEFT IS UP AND RUNNING IN ALL PARTS OF THE UK. PLEASE FOLLOW THESE SIMPLE GUIDE LINES.......

1 .get your dog microchipped.

2. ensure that your dogs collar is secure and that you have an up to date tag that is also waterproof attached.

3. update new address with the company that has chipped your dogand also your new local vet.

4. never let your dog out of site, or leave it un attended at any time.

5. never leave your dog in a car or outside a shop at any time.

6. if like me, you have more than 1 dog, never walk your dogs at the same place 2 days running and change the times that you go for walks..

7. if at all possible, take a friend with you on your daily walks.

8. walk away from a stranger that does not have a dog with them, they may well start asking you questions about your dog to gather information!

9. never go out at night alone with your dog, always take a friend/partner with you and never go out after 10pm if you can help it.

10. at least twice a year get your vet to scan your dog to ensure that the chip is still in place.

PLEASE KEEP YOUR DOGS SAFE FROM THEIVES AT ALL TIMES. Alfieslostterriers team

At the Ski Slopes in St. Albans Hill, South East, HP1, an attempted theft of a dog took place whilst it was being walked by its owner.
Please be on your guard, don't let it happen to your dog.

Dear Debbie,
The site is very striking and I feel sure will have the desired effect.
I have have already bombarded all my local vets with letters signed by the public and am now widening the net.
Also , am sending copies to all my friends around the country as well as organisations etc.
Thank you Debbie and good luck everybody !

Love

Jess
