I can understand what you're saying Jo, and I agree with you, it could increase the number of thefts. It's a catch 22 situation. People with missing dogs who advertise 'reward' could also be increasing the amount of dog thefts, but it's the only way in many cases they can get their dogs back. If we can raise awareness though, hopefully people will take more precautions to prevent their dogs being stolen and also get their dogs microchipped.

If, at the same time, we can get all vets to start scanning and make people aware that it's wrong to buy dogs in pubs etc, we can hope that eventually, dog theft will no longer be profitable.

I have e mailed about 40 vets today with our awareness poster in north kent and surrounding area.

Have loads more to do yet.

I have e mailed vets this afternoon in Beds,Bucks, Herts, Northampton & Oxford
with the vets get scanning letter

PLEASE ALL MEMBERS CAN YOU PRINT OFF AND POST BOTH OUR AWARENESS POSTER AND THE VETS GET SCANNING POSTER TO YOUR LOCAL VETS ASAP. Sorry for late reply, I have been away.  Re your question 'if any vets are registering on site' as you have sent about 200 emails out to vets.  The only vets we have registering are through individuals who are approaching their own vets, apart from the brilliant work that Jess has done.  I still think the personal approach is best.  I still haven't heard from your vet Justine. I will let you know as soon as we have a random vet who registers.  We have changed the letter on www.vetsgetscanning.co.uk to show the change in advice from the RCVS, which is a great step forward.  Also added www.dogtheftaction.com who are doing some great things to get the laws changed.  Sorry I will not be able to make the 10th September, hope it all goes well. Thanks for your message Debbie, I will try harder to personally contact vets, I cant understand why my vet has not been intouch, I will ask them again as they do agree with all that we are doing for both awareness and vets get scanning. Justine

The aim of the Vets Get Scanning appeal is to get all Vets, or their receptionists, to scan all dogs on their books and for Vets to adopt a practice policy where all dogs are routinely scanned on their first visit.
