Stories/poems to make you think

Some of these poems are sad or inspirational but some are a sad reflection of reality , also visit this website,

"MY BEST FRIEND CLOSED HIS EYES LAST NIGHT,
AS HIS HEAD WAS IN MY HAND.
THE DOCTORS SAID HE WAS IN PAIN,
AND IT WAS HARD FOR HIM TO STAND.

THE THOUGHTS THAT SCURRIED THROUGH MY HEAD,
AS I CRADLED HIM IN MY ARMS.
WERE OF HIS YOUNGER, PUPPY YEARS,
AND OH...HIS MANY CHARMS.

TODAY, THERE WAS NO GENTLE NUDGE
WITH AN INTENSE "I LOVE YOU GAZE",
ONLY A HEART THATS FILLED WITH TEARS
REMEMBERING OUR JOY FILLED DAYS.

BUT AN ANGEL JUST APPEARED TO ME,
AND SAID, 'you should cry no more,
GOD ALSO LOVES OUR CANINE FRIENDS,
HE'S INSTALLED A "doggie-door"!"

Jan Cooper

I love this...Nova

She is pregnant, he had just saved her from
a fire in her house, rescuing her by carrying
her out of the house into her front yard,
while he continued to fight the fire.

When he finally got done putting the fire out,
he sat down to catch his breath and rest.

A photographer from the Charlotte , North Carolina newspaper, noticed her in the
distance looking at the fireman.

He saw her walking straight toward the
fireman and wondered what she was going to do.

As he raised his camera, she came up to the
tired man who had saved her life and the lives
of her babies and kissed him just as the
photographer snapped this photograph

The Kiss
AND THEY SAY ANIMALS ARE DUMB!

NO WAY!

An Old Dog's Prayer

One by One, they pass by my cage,
Too old, too worn, too broken, no way.
Way past his time, he can't run and play.
Then they shake their heads slowly and go on their way

A little old man, arthritic and sore,
It seems I am not wanted anymore.
I once had a home, I once had a bed,
A place that was warm, and where I was fed.

Now my muzzle is gray, and my eyes slowly fail.
Who wants a dog so old and so frail?
My family decided I didn't belong,
I got in their way, my attitude was wrong.

Whatever excuse they made in their head,
Can't justify how they left me for dead.
Now I sit in this cage, where day after day,
The younger dogs get adopted and driven away.

When I had almost come to the end of my rope,
You saw my face, and I finally had hope.
You saw thru the gray, and the legs bent with age,
And felt I still had life beyond this cage.

You took me home, gave me food and a bed,
And shared your own pillow with my poor tired head.
We snuggle and play, and you talk to me low,
You love me so dearly, you want me to know.

I may have lived most of my life with another,
But you outshine them with a love so much stronger.
And I promise to return all the love I can give,
To you, my dear person, as long as I live.

I may be with you for a week, or for years,
We will share many smiles, you will no doubt shed tears.
And when the time comes that God deems I must leave,
I know you will cry and your heart, it will grieve.

And when I arrive at the Bridge, all brand new,
My thoughts and my heart will still be with you.
And I will brag to all who will hear,
Of the person who made my last days so dear.
He is your friend, your partner, your defender,Your Dog! You are his life, his love, his leader! He will be yours, faithful and true to the last beat of his heart! You owe it to him to be worthy of such devotion!

A Dog Sits Waiting

(by Kathy Flood)

A dog sits waiting in the cold autumn sun.
Too faithful to leave, too frightened to run.

He's been here for days now with nothing to do
but sit by the road, waiting for you.

He can't understand why you left him that day.
He thought you and he were stopping to play.

He's sure you'll come back, and that's why he stays.
How long will he suffer? How many more days?

His legs have grown weak, his throat's parched and dry.
He's sick now from hunger, and falls, with a sigh.

He lays down his head and closes his eyes.
I wish you could see how a waiting dog dies.

He is your friend, your partner, your defender,Your Dog! You are his life, his love, his leader! He will be yours, faithful and true to the last beat of his heart! You owe it to him to be worthy of such devotion!

My family brought me home cradled in their arms.
They cuddled me and smiled at me and said I was full of charm.
They played with me and laughed with me and showered me with toys.
I sure do love my family, especially the little girls and boys.

The children loved to feed me; they gave me special treats.
They even let me sleep with them - all snuggled in the sheets.
I used to go for walks, often several times a day.
They even fought to hold the leash, I'm very proud to say.

These are the things I'll not forget - a cherished memory.
I now live in the shelter - without my family.
They used to laugh and praise me when I played with that old shoe.
But I didn't know the difference between the old one and the new.

The kids and I would grab a rag, for hours we would tug.
So I thought I did the right thing when I chewed the bedroom rug.
They said that I was out of control and would have to live outside.
This I didn't understand, although I tried and tried.

The walks stopped, one by one; they said they hadn't time.
I wish that I could change things; I wish I knew my crime.
My life became so lonely in the backyard, on a chain.
I barked and barked all day long to keep from going insane.

So they brought me to the shelter but were embarrassed to say why.
They said I caused an allergy, and then they each kissed me goodbye.
If I'd only had some training as a little pup.
I wouldn't have been so hard to handle when I was all grown up.

"You only have one day left",
I heard the worker say.
Does that mean I have a second chance?
Do I go home today?
He is your friend, your partner, your defender,Your Dog! You are his life, his love, his leader! He will be yours, faithful and true to the last beat of his heart! You owe it to him to be worthy of such devotion!

A DOGS SOUL
Every dog must have a soul
Somewhere deep inside
Where all his hurts and grievances
Are buried with his pride.

Where he decides the good and bad,
The wrong way from the right,
And where his judgement carefully
Is hidden from our sight.

A dog must have a secret place
Where every thought abides,
A sort of close acquaintance that
He trusts in and confides.

And when accused unjustly for
Himself, he cannot speak,
Rebuked, he finds within his soul
The comfort he must seek.

He'll love, though he is unloved,
And he'll serve though badly used,
And one kind word will wipe away
The times when he's abused.

Although his heart may break in two
His love will still be whole,
Because God gave to every dog
An understanding soul
He is your friend, your partner, your defender,Your Dog! You are his life, his love, his leader! He will be yours, faithful and true to the last beat of his heart! You owe it to him to be worthy of such devotion!

Just a Staffy Cross.

Today is just another day - to me they're all the same
I have the worst of genes you see, I bear the "Staffy" shame.
The shame is in our numbers, there's thousands with no home.
Thousands just like me you'll find, in kennels all alone.

My mum was "just a Staffy", my father - well who knows?
Mum, too, became unwanted, as the last puppy goes.
And then begins the process, of money-making deals
A life of "moving on" unfolds, who cares how the Staffy feels?
If you have the cash to hand, the Staffy pup is yours
But that pup is getting bigger now, just look at those big paws.

You brought me for your image, thought I'd make you look more tough
But you'll find my boisterous nature has already got too much.
If you had thought to train me, with kindness and with praise
You would have had a faithful friend to share your darkest days.
I would lay down my life for you, but you simply cannot see
You make sure you get your money back on what you paid for me.

And on it goes, until one day, I'm no longer worth a dime
The retail on an adult staff - not worth the waste of time.
So what happens to a Staffy now? Do you really want to know?
Do you care what will become of us, when we leave our final home?

Have you ever thought to wonder, "Where is that Staffy now?"
The "Staffy" has another name; he's become a "stray" somehow.
Me, I was put into a car and n far away
The door held open, I jumped out, I thought to run and play.
It was with joy and happy heart I turned to look for you
You drove away with all my trust and a piece of my heart too.

I wondered round for many days before I was brought here.
Now I wait with heavy heart, trepidation and with fear.
Seven days is all I have you see, seven days for you to claim
The little dog that you threw out, for which you have no shame.

This is my last goodbye now my seven days are up
If only more thought had gone into the future of that pup
As the needle empties to my veins I lay down with one last sigh
I'm sorry I was born a Staff, because it means that I must die.

PLEASE THINK BEFORE YOU BREED >>>>>
He is your friend, your partner, your defender,Your Dog! You are his life, his love, his leader! He will be yours, faithful and true to the last beat of his heart! You owe it to him to be worthy of such devotion!

Dear God, Please Send Me Somebody Who'll Care!
I'm Tired of Running, I'm Sick With Despair.
My Body Is Aching, It's So Racked With Pain,
And Dear God I Pray As I Run In The Rain.

That Someone Will Love Me And Give Me A Home.
A Warm Cozy Bed And A Big Juicy Bone.
My Last Owner Tied Me All Day In The Yard
Sometimes With No Water And God That Was Hard!

So I Chewed My Leash God And I Ran Away
To Rummage In Garbage And Live As A Stray.
But Now God I'm Tired And Hungry And Cold.
And I'm So Afraid That I'll Never Grow Old.

They've Chased Me With Sticks And Hit Me With Stones
While I Run The Streets Just Looking For Bones!
I'm Not Really Bad God, Please Help If You Can,
For I Have Become Just A "Victim Of Man!"

I'm Wormy Dear God And I'm Ridden With Fleas And
All That I Want Is An Owner To Please!
If You Find One For Me God, I'll Try To Be Good
And I Won't Chew Their Shoes, But I'll Do As I Should.

I'll Love Them, Protect Them, And Try To Obey
When They Tell Me To Sit, To Lie Down, Or To Stay!
I Don't Think I'll Make It Too Long On My Own,
Cause I'm Getting So Weak And I'm So All Alone.

Each Night As I Sleep In The Bushes I Cry,
Cause I'm So Afraid God, That I'm Gonna Die!
And I've Got So Much Love And Devotion To Give,
That I Should Be Given A New Chance To Live.

So Dear God Please, Please Answer My Prayer And
Send Me Somebody Who Will Really Care ...
He is your friend, your partner, your defender,Your Dog! You are his life, his love, his leader! He will be yours, faithful and true to the last beat of his heart! You owe it to him to be worthy of such devotion!

spaniels close call

A sniffer dog has been saved after mistakenly swallowing some of the drugs he found in a police raid in Leeds.
Jazz the Springer Spaniel was rushed to vets after dog handler Pc Steve Wilson realised he had accidentally punctured a package of drugs with his teeth.

A veterinary nurse raced to Bradford hospital for an antidote, and Jazz was given the injection, had his stomach pumped and was put on a drip overnight.

He has made a full recovery and is now back on duty.

Arrests

Pc Wilson said he was delighted that is Jazz now back to full health, and thanked the medical team for their help in saving the sniffer dog's life.

"I'd like to pass on my sincere thanks to the veterinary practice for responding so quickly and with such professionalism," he added.

Following Jazz's brush with death a man was arrested and a quantity of suspected heroin, along with a firearm, was recovered.

LUCKY ESCAPE FOR A KITTY
« Reply #13 on: October 24, 2007, 12:10:58 PM »

Kitten rescued from washer's spin

A 10-week-old kitten who sneaked inside a washing machine for a cat nap ended up going for a bit of a spin instead.
No-one noticed Molly was in the machine when it was put on for a wash until her owner, 11-year-old owner Bethany, saw her clawing at the inside of the door.

The soggy moggy made it out alive but had to be whisked off to the vets as she was having trouble breathing. She's since made a full recovery.

Bethany's mum, Sonia, said: "We'll be watching her more closely after this."

She said they feared the worst when they had to wait for the machine to drain before they could get Molly out, but when they opened the door she was sitting up and meowing.

She said: "The whole family think she's a really special and a very lucky little kitten."
