When was the last time?
« Reply #30 on: October 08, 2008, 05:02:14 PM »
When was the last time your tv nuzzled up to you when you felt sad? Never!

When was the last time your pc licked your arm to call you in the morning? Never!

When was the last time your car let you know its time for walkies? Never!

When was the last time your shoes fell asleep at your feet while on the loo? Never!

When was the last time your fridge warmed your heart? Never!

When was the last time your keys locked you out by accident? Never!

When was the last time you actually were literally over the moon? Never!

When was the last time your dog let you down? Or back chatted you? Or insulted you? Or hated you? Or gave you any hassle of any kind? NEVER!  :-*

MAY I GO NOW?

May I go now?
Do you think the time is right?
May I say goodbye to pain filled days
and endless lonely nights?
I've lived my life and done my best,
an example tried to be.
So can I take that step beyond
and set my spirit free?

I didn't want to go at first,
I fought with all my might.
But something seems to draw me now
to a warm and loving light.
I want to go
I really do.
It's difficult to stay.

But I will try as best I can
to live just one more day.
To give you time to care for me
and share your love and fears.
I know you're sad and afraid,
because I see your tears. I'll not be far,
I promise that, and hope you'll always know
that my spirit will be close to you
wherever you may go.
Thank you so for loving me.
You know I love you too,
that's why it's hard to say goodbye
and end this life with you.

So hold me now just one more time
and let me hear you say,
because you care so much for me,
you'll let me go today.

My Beautiful Shep

Shep you have been gone for twenty six years
since then I have cried millions of tears
I rescued you from the city pound
my beautiful girl all fluffy and round
a border collie so pretty its true
you loved me so much and god how I loved you
you were with me twenty four hours a day
fetching a ball or playing in the hay
you loved to run with the wind in your hair
by the side of your friend my chestnut mare
we would ride for miles and have lots of fun
in the snow the wind the rain or the sun
you came with me to work everyday
everyone loved you they wanted to play
you came out in my lorry which you did'nt much like
you would rather have gone out on a five mile hike
but you would'nt leave my side and I did'nt want you to
you came everywhere with me even to the loo
we had nine brilliant years which was not long enough
and when you got sick my god that was tough
you hung on until my first daughter was born
you did'nt have long my emotions were torn
I loved you much more than you could possibly know
and that love for you I will never let go
but the pain at the loss of my loving true friend
will be in my heart until my life ends
I miss you dear Shep my faithful old girl
my heart bleeds for you its all in a whirl
it feels like only today that you left my side
my life goes on but a big part of me died
there have been many more that I have rescued and loved
who have joined you up in the heavens above
so until the day we all meet again
may your love for me always remain.

I love you Sheppy, you will be forever in my heart , how I miss you.
God bless little girl. xx

I went out for a walk

It was so lovely in the sun.

Chasing the leaves, I was having so much fun.

Jumping and climbing I could have done it all day.

When I stopped to rest, I realised I had lost my way.

I love and miss you and want you to know , it was nothing you have done.

I just got carried away with playing in the sun.

Please try not to worry too much about me.

I can look after myself, and in a way I am free.

Although I'll never stop looking for a way home, we will never be apart.

I will always feel your love for me, deep within my heart.

It may be all we have for now, but it's enough for me.

Cause you'll never know when I'll walk through your door

and expect you to have my tea."

I RESCUED A HUMAN TODAY

by: Janine Allen

Her eyes met mine as she walked down the corridor peering apprehensively into the kennels. I felt her need instantly and knew I had to help her.

I wagged my tail, not too exuberantly, so she wouldnít be afraid. As she stopped at my kennel I blocked her view from a little accident I had in the back of my cage. I didnít want her to know that I hadnít been walked today. Sometimes the overworked shelter keepers get too busy and I didnít want her to think poorly of them.

As she read my kennel card I hoped that she wouldnít feel sad about my past. I only have the future to look forward to and want to make a difference in someoneís life.

She got down on her knees and made little kissy sounds at me. I shoved my shoulder and side of my head up against the bars to comfort her. Gentle fingertips caressed my neck; she was desperate for companionship. A tear fell down her cheek and I raised my paw to assure her that all would be well.

Soon my kennel door opened and her smile was so bright that I instantly jumped into her arms.

I would promise to keep her safe.
I would promise to always be by her side.
I would promise to do everything I could to see that radiant smile and sparkle in her eyes.

I was so fortunate that she came down my corridor. So many more are out there who havenít walked the corridors. So many more to be saved. At least I could save one.

I rescued a human today.

Rescued Dog

Once I was a lonely dog,
Just looking for a home.
I had no place to go,
No one to call my own.

I wandered up and down the streets,
in rain in heat and snow.
I ate whatever I could find,
I was always on the go.

My skin would itch, my feet were sore,
My body ached with pain.
And no one stopped to give a pat
Or to gently say my name.

I never saw a loving glance,
I was always on the run.
For people thought that hurting me
was really lots of fun.

And then one day I heard a voice
So gentle, kind and sweet,
And arms so soft reached down to me
And took me off my feet.

"No one again will hurt you Was whispered in my ear."
"You'll have a home to call your own
where you will know no fear."
"You will be dry, you will be warm,
you'll have enough to eat."
"And rest assured that when you sleep,
your dreams will all be sweet."

I was afraid I must admit,
I've lived so long in fear.
I can't remember when I let
A human came so near.

And as she tended to my wounds
And bathed and brushed my fur
She told me about the rescue group
And what it meant to her.

She said, "We are a circle,
A line that never ends".
"And in the centre there is you
protected by new friends".

"And all around you are
the ones that check the pounds,
And those that share their home
after you've been found".

"And all the other folk
are searching near and far.
"To find the perfect home for you,
where you can be a star".

She said, "There is a family,
that's waiting patiently,
and pretty soon we'll find them,
just you wait and see".

"And then they'll join our circle
they'll help to make it grow,
so there'll be room for more like you,
who have no place to go".

I waited very patiently,
The days they came and went.
Today's the day I thought,
my family will be sent.

Then just when I began to think
It wasn't meant to be,
there were people standing there
just gazing down at me.

I knew them in a heartbeat,
I could tell they felt it too.
They said, "We have been waiting
for a special dog like you".

Now every night I say a prayer
to all the gods that be.
"Thank you for the life I live
and all you've given me.

But most of all protect the dogs
in the pound and on the street.
And send a Rescue Person
to lift them off their feet.

oday is the death day of nobodyís dog
Nothing will mark it but a note in the log
Iím faceless and nameless and no tears will fall
For I know in your world I have no worth at all

To you, my sweet someone, Iím a friend and a dear
We ran the wind daily and you held me so near
But the gate was left open Ė I chanced a walk on my own
Iíd have cowered in fear if only Iíd known

I know how you cried on the night that I strayed
I know how you searched, I know how you prayed
But I went to a pound far far from our home
Where I crouched in despair in my kennel alone

I know that you phoned for I heard your dear voice
And I hoped you would hear me so I barked myself hoarse
Although Iím a Lab cross with stockings all white
On their form Iím a Staff cross Ė the descriptionís not right

So they said Iím not here and I sank to my bed
My kennel coughís worse and I canít raise my head
The rescue came yesterday but they hadnít a place
For an un-neutered cross breed with his mucus-streaked face

If only youíd come to search for me here
You would have known me at once, you would have sensed I was near
You would have sorted my ills, you would have carried me home
And I promise our God no more would I roam

Now my eyes plead for mercy for my seven days are done
And I am waiting with dread for the final vet run
No arms will caress me as they inject me to death
No words will comfort me as I take my last breath

When the body man comes, it is fitting Iím found
In a bin bag in the freezer in the depths of the pound
Thrown away like the rubbish - no respect and no shame
Denied even the time to find you again

My loyalty and devotion they did cruelly betray
Without microchip or nametag, I am just a dispensable stray
Once waggy-tailed, once proud, beloved and free
Oh Dad look with pain at what mankindís done to me!

Bye Baby

"No more lonely cold nights or hearing that I'm bad
No more growling belly from the meals I never had
No more scorching sunshine with a water bowl thats dry
No more complaing neighbours about the noise when I cry
No more hearing 'shut up', 'get down' 'get out of here'
No more feeling disliked only peace is in the air
Euthanasia is a blessing, though some still can't see
Why I was ever born, if I weren't meant to be
My last day of living was the best I ever had
Someone held me very close, I could see she was so sad
I kissed the lady's face and she hugged me as she cried
I wagged my tail to thank her, then I closed my eyes and.....
died."

I adopted your dog today
The one you left at the pound
The one you had for ten years
And no longer wanted around

I adopted your dog today
Do you know heís lost weight
Do you know heís scared and depressed
And has lost all faith

I adopted your dog today
He had fleas and a cold
But donít worry none
Youíve unburdened your load

I adopted your dog today
Were you having a baby or moving away
Did you suddenly develop allergies
Or was there no reason why he couldnít stay

I adopted your dog today
He doesnít play or eat much
Heís very depressed
But he will learn again to trust

I adopted your dog today
And here he will stay
Heís found his forever home
And a warm bed to lay

I adopted your dog today
And I will give him all that he could need
Patience, love, security and understanding
And in time he will forget your selfish deed.
