Brilliant interview Debbie well done. Having met you when Justine and I came to the shopping centre and seeing how upset you were then and hearing the interview today it has bought it all back and how i felt for you that day we met. I hope i never have to experience this myself as it upsets me everytime you speak to people who have had their dog stolen, i really do not know where people who have had a dog stolen years ago find the strength to carry on.
Thank you so much, keep up the good work and we will support you until this law is changed.

You're doing a fantastic job Debbie and Sylvia and well done for getting so many signatures.
Just listened to the interview Debbie and I hope many more people listen to it. It is excellent and I think you covered most of the issues I'm always ranting on about to my poor customers (and anyone else who will listen). So many people are totally unaware of what's going on.

I've just been listening to the interview and I thought it was really good. People till don't seem to be aware of the fact that virtually nothing is being done about crime, even when it involves stolen dogs.
It would be nice if interviews like that could be much more widely heard because there are so many dog owners who could put so much pressure on vets just by innocently asking whether or not it's true that they don't scan dogs.
The more owners ask for dogs to be scanned, the more likely vets are to start scanning dogs as a matter of routine.

POLITICAL INTELLIGENCE SERVICE 20th April 2007
WELFARE OF DOGS
Commons Adjournment Debate - Andrew Rosindell MP (Con - Romford)
There follows yesterday’s half hour debate on the Welfare of Dogs, initiated by Andrew Rosindell MP. There is another organisation known as “Vets Get Scanning”, whose patrons include Bruce Forsyth and his daughter Debbie Matthews. It seeks to promote the practice of microchipping all puppies as a matter of routine and procedure, and the practice of scanning every dog that enters any veterinary surgery anywhere in the United Kingdom. Why, Members will ask, is such a practice so necessary and important? It will probably come as a surprise to them, as it did to me, to learn that dog theft is one of the fastest-growing criminal activities in the United Kingdom. The crime targets the natural bond that exists between owner and pet—a bond that in many cases is as strong as the bond between family members. These vile criminals will seek to exploit the natural affinity between man and his best friend, either by kidnapping the dog and holding it to ransom—as happened recently to the pop artist and singer Lily Allen—or, as happens in many thefts, by stealing the pet to sell on to unscrupulous breeders or those willing to pay exorbitant amounts for a particularly rare breed of dog. If the ransom is not paid or the dogs cannot be sold on, they will often be killed and discarded.
It is hoped that promoting the simple practice of scanning a dog when it enters a veterinary surgery will cause authenticity of ownership to form an effective barrier and deterrent to those who might enter into the Column 544
crime of dog theft, whether it be the criminal who steals the dog or the unscrupulous breeder or others who may buy the animal from the criminal. The “Vets Get Scanning” scheme is helping to eradicate that evil activity. I commend its work to the House and hope that the Minister will consider working with it to make the scanning of all dogs whenever they enter a veterinary surgery a routine practice.

Hi everyone, Pam St Clement (Pat Butcher in Eastenders) who is one of our new celebrity supporters, gave Vets Get Scanning a wonderful plug on Animal Rescue this morning on BBC 1. Also wanted to let you all know we should have a new A4 poster available for download in the next couple of days. Will post and let you know when it's ready. Keep up the good work and thank you for your support. Debbie

Whilst at Paws in the park today, vets get scanning had a stand there and was very busy, lots of people have signed the petition.
The stand today was run by Joe, (Jess's husband)
Joe it was good to meet you and sorry that Jess was unable to make it, although had a chat with her on the phone so it was good to catch up.
Love Karen XX
