Ruby
« on: June 07, 2007, 12:07:05 PM »

Ruby is a 14 year old JRTx. She came into Oldies Club care as her owners could not cope with their toddler and Ruby. She is in an Oldies Club foster home in West Sussex

Ruby is an undemanding dog who loves human company. She follows her humans around and settles in the room where they are. She doesn’t necessarily want attention, just the company.

She is good with other dogs. She doesn’t like to ’share’ her food and warns the other dogs to leave her alone while she is eating. It is not known if this would go any further, as the fosterer’s dogs leave her alone then.

Ruby is fine with older children who respect that she is old, but not young ones or toddlers as she would nip them. Children need to appreciate that Ruby has not-so-good hearing and possibly not-so-good eyesight, so needs to be approached carefully and not suddenly be picked up. If you gently let her know you are there, she is then fine with being handled.

Ruby is fully housetrained and she is also used to using a dog flap. She is OK being left and is good when travelling in the car.

Her previous owners have said that when Ruby was about 8 years old she had a hip replacement operation and that she has not had any problems from this.

Ruby is spayed, vaccinated and will be microchipped, worm and flea treated before rehoming. She has a mild heart murmur but does not currently need any medication.
Ruby will make a wonderful companion for her new owner.

If you would like to find out more about her, please contact Liz, the Oldies Club’s rehoming co-ordinator on 01603 405 951 or email: rehome@oldies.org.uk.

It is such a shame that the owners have had to give up up after all this time, Ruby must be wondering what she has done wrong, she does not look an older dog at all. I hope that she finds a forever home to see out the rest of her life.

That's the thing with oldies sometimes they do look and act their age but some don't.

My girl is 81/2 years old a collie/whippet cross and honestly she has more energy than the 4 younger ones (age from 22months to 3/12) put together.

oh poor girl, that sad! Sucha shame that her owners couldnt work out some sort of arrangement whereby they could keep her.
I hope Ruby soon finds her forever  home that really IS forever. She looks like a really loving girl. xx

That is good news.
It always amazes me how many dogs are rehomed because of a new child. My daughter was taught how to respect and get on with my Yorkie as soon as she was able to reach out and grab. The dog was here first so she had to fit in.

Very good point that you have just made Tereeza. So many dogs come to me after the parents have started to have babies. Justine
