Ambers Update
« on: September 05, 2007, 10:52:51 AM »

Hi
I asked if this would be ok to post  & was told I could.
I am not sure how many of you remember Amber. She is this little one
http://www.alfieslostterriers.com/bb/index.php/topic,2425.0.html

Well she has now been diagnoised as having Cushings so all plans of a new home for her are now cancelled. She will stay as one of our 'Residents' so we can ensure that she gets all the treatment she requires.
She had 6 teeth out yesterday & starts her Cushings med today. We are now fund raising for her as the meds are very expensive & together with all the routine blood tests etc she will eat up a sizeable chunk of my rescue funds. Thus the campaign.
I have attached a poster that I am asking people to print off & post in vets/pet shops etc & also there is a link to Ambers own site where auctions/raffles/guest book etc are taking place.
Thank you all in advance. This little girl has been through so much in life & now this, but she is a fighter & whilst there is no cure we are hoping to give her an even longer, better quality life.
If anyone has problems opening/seeing the poster, just email me & I can either email it to you or pop some in the post.

I am amazed at all the offers that have came in so far. We have one nutter
lady doing a parachute jump Shocked, one members little boy who is disabled wants to do a sponsored swim & his brother has offered to do a sponsored football goal scoring game (his mum said that could go on for days Cheesy ), we have also had a design company putting an exclusive collection of all things doggy called Ambers Collection & for every purchase Amber will get 5%. There are also so many people emailing large companies, a big dog toy company is sending a large box of goodies for the auction, oh boy we are hoping that once Ambers treatment money is in place we will be able to help others that are suffering from this disease, especially if there is an elderly owner that would struggle to meet the costs as this is expensive, we would offer to pay a % towards vet bills for them. I have saught legal advice & am waiting for the reply as I would like to set up a National Funding for Cushings, sounds like a pipe dream at the moment, but with all the offers/help etc it could be turned into a reality!!
I am just so grateful & Amber would like to thank everyone from the bottom of her 'little bald bum' Cheesy

I cried. Felt such a plonker. Was the 5th person called out & all the shows that I have been to call out in the order of awards, so I was so chuffed to be 5th?? Then as I was cuddling her & exchanging 'tongues' I was given her rosette & it was 1st. Got a lump in my throat now typing this. What a wally?

How could you not award a first to that beautiful face. Amber is adorable.

Yorkie Girl, have you enquired if there are any studies into Cushings at any of the Veterinary Hospitals? Your vet would have to enquire on your behalf. When my Yorkie was diagnosed I was offered the option in exchange for free medicine & reduced costs for the blood tests. It was amazing in that she lived an extra 6 years & was so well cared for by all of the doctors and students. She always plodded off with them either in their arms or walking along with them, a good sign that without me she was treated well.

Thank you so much for that info. Amber is going for her 1st blood test on Thursday so I will ask Matthew (he is the vet owner & a star) if this is possible. He did say that he had only came across one other case since qualifying & owning his own practice & now has insisted that he sees Amber every time (I think it is love Roll Eyes Cheesy ) so maybe I will ask if she could be a candidate for a case study (although I must be fair he does all my other little ones at a reduced rate.
I will let you all know what he says on Thursday.
She seems to be doing well & is so good at taking her meds (Thank doG). If we can give her a few more years then we will, she has been to hell & back & deserves all the chances that she can get.
