Debbie the lack of support is just so unbelievable that you have no idea! Hence why we have these websites. I should arrive tomorrow at about 1.30pm and will call you when I land. Justine

All of my four dogs are microchipped.  Although nothing is fail safe I feel that it could expedite the return of a dog if lost or stolen, saving a lot of stress for the dog and owner.

Sorry you didn't make it Justine, but had a good chat with the Petlog and microchipping company pet-id.  The kennel club are having talks with RCVS about  compulsary scanning of all dogs taken into a vets practice.  I have told them I can get a good selection of celebrities to back them up who would be willing to write to their vets and the RCVS.  I will talk again to them this week.
Jess you asked if you could do a stall for Alfieslostterriers, Rebecca Smart was quite happy about that, please call  her on 0207 518 1008.
Today the microchipping was free, I asked why vets can't have a month of free microchipping.  The girls from pet-id said that occasionally vets do get involved in a promotion and charge just £10.  Another quest for vets!!  What does Alfies lost Terriers resident vet advise us to do in getting vets on board to chip/scan.

In respect of this I have written a couple of weeks ago to my local MP who just so happens to be Mr David Davis to try and get some clout - I am awaiting a response but i did ask him to view this site and others

I hope you have a better response than I've had so far. I've written to my MP who responded but not very positively and the Home Office. The Home Office said that I could not publish their reply (they'd probably send me to the tower if I did!!!) but I did write back telling them that if police chiefs were allowed to choose which crimes they logged then it is no wonder that the crime figures are down. I also said that if they spent more time on criminal matters instead of producing figures that aren't worth the paper they're written on, the victims of crime would be much happier. The second reply said almost the same as the first. Chris

I think that the cost of getting pets microchipped should be academic. The responsibility of microchipping the dog should lay with the rehoming centre or pet shop etc when it is found a new home. I know some organisations such as the RSPCA and Battersea Dogs Home do currently operate this policy. This would ensure that all dogs purchased from reputable sources would be chipped.
As to the issue of the vets scanning dogs that they see, i just don't understand why this is a problem. They have the equipment already to hand and it take less time to scan a dog than it does to weigh them or take their temperatures.
C'mon vets, take the initiative. We are charged enough for a consultation (!), give a little back for the sake of the dogs.

Hi Debbie, I did get there I just couldnt find you as I didnt get your email intime! Sorry that I missed you.

If microchips were scanned on EVERY dog that went to a vet, I know that Alfie would be home now. Justine

This is a message we have rec'd today from Debbie

We are putting a letter together for all dog owners to send to their
individual vets and  to the RCVS.  We are also gathering a list of
celebrities that will lend their name to the appeal.  Once we have that
in
place we will then go to the kennel club and other major dog related
companies for support.
My son inlaw will put a web page together with a link to Alfies Lost
Terriers with all the relevent info on, so that it will be easy to
download.
We will not let this go and hope that soon you will be reunited with
Alfie.
