Two charged with cruelty to animals
« » mum and daughter from Bovingdon are facing a total of 21 charges for animal cruelty including docking the tails of Boxer puppies.
Sylvia Elliot and her daughter Sheila were both investigated by the RSPCA after being reported by a member of the public.
Sheila, aged 26, of Hyde Meadows, the former owner of three Boxer puppies, is facing 12 charges of permitting tail docking, permitting unnecessary suffering, permitting the failure to meet the welfare needs of the dogs and failing to provide for their welfare.
Her mum Sylvia, aged 60, also of Hyde Meadows but not living at the same home, is charged with nine offences of illegal tail docking, causing unnecessary suffering to the dogs through tail docking and failing to meet the welfare needs of the dogs.
The offences are alleged to have been committed last year and the puppies have since been rehomed by the RSPCA.
Docking the tails of dogs is illegal in this country under the Animal Welfare Act unless it is necessary for medical reasons or for certain working dogs.
Sylvia and Sheila Elliot both appeared before Hemel Hempstead magistrates last Friday (January 25). They will appear again at the same court on Friday, February 8, when they are expected to give pleas to the charges.
