Dundalk Dog Rescue is an entirely voluntary, non-profit making, service provided by a group of ordinary people in the community. Our daily purpose is to do whatever is possible to rescue unwanted dogs from our local Dog Pound. As each of our members already hold down a full time job, we need your help. Saving a dog's life is not that easy... Ø Our first intervention in a dog's life usually happens in the pound... Most pounds in Ireland have rules regarding stray & surrender dogs. Stray dogs are mostly brought in by dog wardens and sometimes by members of the public. Once in, a stray dog will have 5 days to be reclaimed or rehomed, if neither happens the dog faces euthanasia. Surrendered dogs have up to 24 hours to be rehomed. Ø 3 to 4 times a week volunteers from Dundalk Dog Rescue go to the pound to photograph and record all of the dogs currently in. These are posted on a website http://petsireland.invisionzone.com * which is used by many dog rescues in Ireland, UK and Sweden. If these rescues have a potential home for any of the dogs currently in the pound they let us know and we book them out of Dundalk the pound.
Ø When the rehoming time is up we have to swiftly organise transportation for the dogs, from the pound to the rescue or to the foster home. Most rescues who work closely with us aren't local. One of our volunteers will usually transport the dogs across the country in their own vehicle. Most dogs are happy enough to take a nap on the back seat.
If you are interested in helping out, free feel to email us on dundalkdogrescue@yahoo.co.uk
We also need people to foster for us to save on kennels fees. We do need people to check the lost & found websites and newspapers section to see if that matches a dog in the pound, ring garda stations to see if any dog has been reported missing, and then need people to help us fundraising, by cake sales, pub quizzes, raffles etc… without funding from the public we cannot continue to safe dogs. Thanks in advance of your support Dundalk Dog Rescue
