GSD
Fri, 07/03/2008

Date Out: 2008-03-10

Dog Status: Urgent Action Required

Found at: Rathbourne Village/Ashton Train Station, Dublin 15.

Location: Pm me for the details.

Age: 1 Year Old Approx.

Reference Number: 303

sex: Female

Bye Baby

No more lonely cold nights or hearing that I'm bad
No more growling belly from the meals I never had
No more scorching sunshine with a water bowl thats dry
No more complaing neighbours about the noise when I cry
No more hearing 'shut up', 'get down' 'get out of here'
No more feeling disliked only peace is in the air
Euthanasia is a blessing, though some still can't see
Why I was ever born, if I weren't meant to be
My last day of living was the best I ever had
Someone held me very close, I could see she was so sad
I kissed the lady's face and she hugged me as she cried
I wagged my tail to thank her, then I closed my eyes and.....
died.

RIP nobodys dog!

Dundalk Dog Rescue is an entirely voluntary, non-profit making, service provided by a group of ordinary people in the community. Our daily purpose is to do whatever is possible to rescue unwanted dogs from our local Dog Pound. As each of our members already hold down a full time job, we need your help.

Saving a dog's life is not that easy...

Ø Our first intervention in a dog's life usually happens in the pound... Most pounds in Ireland have rules regarding stray & surrender dogs. Stray dogs are mostly brought in by dog wardens and sometimes by members of the public. Once in, a stray dog will have 5 days to be reclaimed or rehomed, if neither happens the dog faces euthanasia. Surrendered dogs have up to 24 hours to be rehomed.

Ø 3 to 4 times a week volunteers from Dundalk Dog Rescue go to the pound to photograph and record all of the dogs currently in. These are posted on a website http://petsireland.invisionzone.com * which is used by many dog rescues in Ireland, UK and Sweden. If these rescues have a potential home for any of the dogs currently in the pound they let us know and we book them out of Dundalk the pound.

Ø When the rehoming time is up we have to swiftly organise transportation for the dogs, from the pound to the rescue or to the foster home. Most rescues who work closely with us aren't local. One of our volunteers will usually transport the dogs across the country in their own vehicle. Most dogs are happy enough to take a nap on the back seat.

If you are interested in helping out, free feel to email us on dundalkdogrescue@yahoo.co.uk

We also need people to foster for us to save on kennels fees. We do need people to check the lost & found websites and newspapers section to see if that matches a dog in the pound, ring garda stations to see if any dog has been reported missing, and then need people to help us fundraising, by cake sales, pub quizzes, raffles etc… without funding from the public we cannot continue to safe dogs.

Thanks in advance of your support Dundalk Dog Rescue

There are currently approx 12 dogs at Dundalk Pound alone which need to get out by the start of the week. I know that any help at all is much appreciated by the girls that help these dogs.

The reason dogs have so many friends is because they wag their tails instead of their tongues

I found this and it's heartbreaking.  My first breed has always been GSD, owning my own aged 13 years after being attacked by one my Father thought it a good way to help me overcome my fear.

I went through all the years of bad press GSD's got, all the problems of the breed and last October I helped my faithful friend, my last GSD Bobby, to cross Rainbow Bridge, it was his time, I knew it was because he told me, I still find it hard to speak of him with the tears.

Now when I see things like this it makes me both sad but so very, very angry!!!  There's simply no need to dump dogs, any dog, people have no excuse for not educating themselves BEFORE they got a K9 companion, it's too easy to get a dog these days (in my opinion that is).

We know dogs get stolen, some decide to take a tour outside the garden realms and accidents happen to all of us, but to calculatedly dump a dog, a living creature with a soul, well that's simply despicable!
