MICROCHIPS. SHOULD THEY BE UPDATED EVERY 5 YEARS OR NOT?

MICROCHIPS, SHOULD THEY BE UPDATED EVERY 5 YEARS  YES OR NO Huh

As you will all be aware of by now, Alfie's now have 3 scanners thanks to donations. We are now able to trace dogs so much faster. Today a dog was brought to me and I was able to scan it, trace the owner and the dog was reunited with in 4 hrs. However I do have a problem with all modern scanners, some of the new scanners do not pick up microchips on dogs that are chipped over 12 years ago. THIS IS A WORRY TO ME AND CONCERNS ME GREATLY. Opinions are greatly appreciated please.  Justine

PLEASE GET YOUR DOGS SCANNED AT LEAST ONCE A YEAR, I do this everytime my dogs get the annual booster. After a dog reaches 10 years old, I suggest that the dog has a new chip with details updated. I will be doing this for my 2 cocker's first thing on Tuesday.

Justine - what a fantastic result for that dog!! A 4 hour turnaround is amazing!! However, it does sadly highlight how many dogs must 'slip through the net' just because councils, vets and police don't bother to check for a chip.
