Owner has had an email from someone saying they have Betty , now after further emails they say they want to keep her
The Environmental Protection Act 1990, Section 150 places an obligation on the finder of a stray dog to: Return the dog to its owner or Contact the local authority for the area in which the dog was found If the finder fails to follow this procedure they will have committed an offence and may be liable, upon conviction, to a fine of up to £500 (level 2).

We would like to thank everyone for their support in the search for Betty.. No news from the police yet with regards to the person who said he has her. I received 2 more emails from him today, he asked me for money for what they have spent on the dog, and also asked for her microchip number too, as he said he had taken her to a 'friend' vet to be scanned and wanted to see if the numbers matched. The microchip company are aware that she is missing.

On no account give out the microchip number !! Anyone scanning will get in touch with the microchip company to find out the owner and will say who they are , rescue , vet , dog warden etc.If he persists in asking for money then again notify the police that this individual is trying to scam money from you . This is really starting to sound like a scam.. You could try a false number and see if he does contact the microchip company as long as you advise them that you are doing that and they may then coax info out of them . Dont forget that a genuine vet would not jeapordise themselves like this, if they know they have a lost or stolen dog on their hands , Chris
