if you have set up a trap
you must put food outside and move it  nearer to trap every day , also put a smelly jumper of yours in the trap and make sure trap is covered, disguised  straw branches something like that , put food in trap also but keep it fresh , put water nearby as well , more info

We need to know that chasing a lost dog is one of the worst things we can do. It only reaffirms to the dog that people should be avoided.

So what should you do when you encounter a lost dog or your own lost dog?
•Sit down.
•Turn your body so your back or side is to the dog.
•Keep your eyes averted and bow your head so as to look non-threatening.
•Toss tasty treats (hot dogs, pilchards, biscuits  chicken, smelly cheese, treats etc.) behind you or to the side of you.
•Don’t talk.
•Wait patiently for the dog to approach you. Don’t make any sudden movements, but continue to toss treats.
•Don’t grab the dog when they get close, but wait patiently and build trust., Have a slip lead with you
•Speak softly, but if they back away, stop talking and just continue to toss treats until they trust you enough to come closer.
Try walking away, then sitting down , make whimpering noises
Try taking a favourite toy  especially one that squeaks and sometimes  a bitch in season can help with a male dog
Take your time , keep feeding  treats
REMEMBER .OWNER  If you see your dog stay calm , appear uninterested , get down, crouch or sit , dont make eye contact ,make noises such as whimpering or gently call dogs name , they will not recognise you until they smell you, if your dog runs off or walks away follow calmly and repeat above
Make sure all helpers are aware of the above and have your phone number with them
