Title: BUDDY ..his story
Post by: K9 on July 18, 2007, 09:37:21 PM
Buddy was snatched from the hands of death today  as this old fellow was due to be PTS tonight.  Abandoned by his owners who, despite his phone number on his collar deny all knowledge of him!! Sadly The kennels that he was in ,no longer had enough room due to the influx of dogs abandoned during the holiday season. Sadly and regretfully they had to choose 2 dogs to make way for the dogs more likely to be found a home.Buddy was a greying older lab x with a flea allergy, He was overlooked by the visitors who chose another dog, He is a friendly ,laid back chap with a wagging tail and harmless nature, so I asked if I could take him and they were so pleased ... but where do I take him at such short notice , couldnt take him to mine  so.... Justine !!!!!, ....  a phone call and now he is in the care of Justine who will make him better, until a home can be found for him,   THANKYOU for  helping us find him somewhere to stay   now he needs medical care and to realise that no-one will harm him any more,  Can we appeal for help in his medical treatment so that he will be ready for a new and forever home.

These photos show the state of neglect that Buddy had when he arrived at the kennels with overgrown toenails and bad  flea allergy , There was a noticable improvement in his skin since I first saw it  but these conditions take time to heal . He deserves a loving and caring forever home, he appears to have suffered and yet hes so forgiving......... an elderly ,greying dog that was no longer wanted!

FIRSTLY I WOULD LIKE THANK K9 AND R2, OR OTHERWISE KNOWN AS "DOUBLE TROUBLE" FOR BRINGING THIS DOG TO ME AND FOR PREVENTING "BUDDY, AS MY DAD HAS RENAMED HIM" FROM BEING PUT TO SLEEP TODAY.

Since Buddy arrived at my house I have treated him for severe worms and treated him for a flea infestation. I have also noticed that Buddy has a bad walk which I think is consistant to a strong kick in the back end, this has been left to heal on its own and has left this poor boy with a funny walk, he is unable to lift his back leg. Also because of the neglect with the fleas Buddy has a very bad skin condition.

However he is now here in my home, thanks to "double trouble" and he will be cared for and within just a few weeks will be ready for a new home.

However this will take money as Buddy will need treatment for his skin and will also need to be castrated. I have today treated him for the fleas and wormed him.

WE ARE APPEALING FOR DONATIONS TO FUND THE REST OF HIS TREATMENT. I THINK THAT WE WILL NEED TO RAISE ABOUT £150.00 FOR BUDDY TO GET HIM READY FOR HIS NEW HOME.

PLEASE CAN ANYBODY HELP US RAISE THIS MONEY....... IT WILL BE MONEY WELL SPENT TO SAVE THE LIFE OF "OUR BUDDY
".  Justine

BUDDIES DIARY FROM DAY 1.

Buddy ate a good amount of breakfast and then went out with me and mine for a 2 hour walk, I kept him on the lead for 30 Min's or so then tried him off the lead and he just loved being with the pack and even had a dip in the sea, towards the end of the walk he was showing signs of wanting to play with the other dogs. I do think that Buddy has hearing problems at the moment, but he has great eye contact. The hearing problem could be due to ear infection, will know more about this soon.

What I can say so far is that Buddy is a lovely, friendly dog, house trained and is not a barker, he is extremely good with people and dogs and just wants to please all the time.

Once we have got Buddy back on form, he will make a perfect pet and companion.  Justine

day 2.

Buddy went to the vets and met up with "our vet  Julien" Buddy has got some problems that will need to be sorted before we will be able to rehome him. I estimated that we would just need to raise the funds to get Buddy castrated, however we will need to raise a bit more as dear Buddy has a tooth absess and a skin condition. Buddy is now on antibiotics for the tooth, this will be removed next Friday when he is being castrated. Julien will be on line soon to explain what needs to be done. Justine

MESSAGE FROM JULIEN, OUR VET......
Dear All,

I met Buddy last Friday. He is the most loveable dog and I hope he will find a nice and caring home.

Before that can happen, he needs some treatment:

1. Tooth root abscess: the left upper molar below the eye is rotten and needs removing. It creates an abscess which appears as a soft lump below the lef eye. This needs flushing as well.
2. The overall dental condition is poor. Teeth need cleaning and some may need to be removed.
3. He suffers from Flea allergy dermatitis. This makes his skin dry and itchy, especially on the back, in front of his tail. He will benefit from a good flea control (Justine uses Stronghold which is perfect) and bathing with an hydrating and soothing shampoo (Justine uses Epi soothe from irbc which is the best).

He is already on antibiotics. This Friday, he is booked in to be castrated and receive his dental treatment.

Although it is difficult to estimate precisely the cost of vet fees before doing the treatment, I believe that Justine will have to pay around £350 before the dog is perfectly back to normal and rehomable. This include the castration, dental with extraction, abscess flush, treatment for the skin condition (flea product, anbtibiotics and shampoo)

I also would like to mention that this is not very expensive for such an extensive treatment: My boss is already waving off some fees and allowed a 10% discount on the overall bill.

I know that Justine is trying to get financial support to help that nice dog: I can tell you that this is money well spend. Without her, Buddy would be dead by now. With her and the treatment, he will soon be a healthy and happy dog making the joy of some.

Best regards,

Julien

I am pleased to say that "our Buddy" has had his rotten tooth removed, his teeth cleaned, his "bits" removed and has also had his first annual booster, as we don't know his history we decided to start his boosters from fresh, he gets his second jab in 2 weeks. Buddy came to me wagging his tail and gave me a huge lick, them promptly fell flat on all fours, still druggie from his op bless him. I brought him home, he slept a bit and then ate a large dish of warm roast chicken.

I am pleased to say, this made me weep, that "our Buddy" has his very own vaccination card now.I am so proud of this and what we have all achieved in saving Buddies life. I would like to send my thanks and gratitude to K9 and secret lady for saving Buddies life. I would also like to thank Julien for taking such good care of Buddy and a special thanks to LADY DANE VETS, for the huge discount that they have given us.

I WOULD LIKE TO SAY A VERY HUGE "THANK YOU" TO OUR MEMBERS FOR THE CONTRIBUTIONS THAT YOU HAVE ALL MADE, TO MAKE THIS POSSIBLE AND TO HELP SAVE BUDDIES LIFE.

Dear All,

Justine brought Buddy to the surgery yesterday. His hair coat is alread a lot better: becoming silky and growing back where it was thin.

He received a general anaesthetic under which I castrated him and performed a dental. The left upper molar had to be removed before the abscess that develloped above it could be flushed. The other teeth were viable: they just needed a descale and polish.

Justine also requested that Buddy was vaccinated and he receive his first inoculation. A second vaccination will be necessary in 2 to 4 weeks time. I have to mention that this increased the total cost of the procedure.

Buddy is a delightful chap and I hope he will find a good home soon although he looks perfectly happy with Justine.

Thanks a lot for the donations

Julien

Thanks for this information Julien, yes I love Buddy to bits, but I already have 7 dogs, it will be better for Buddy to have a new home with people that can give him more attention. Justine

As you can see Buddy has put on weight and his skin is looking better, he still has scars on his neck from the rubbing that was caused by his collar that we had to cut off as it was far too tight. Buddy had another bath using epi soothe shampoo and a good grooming, once again he looks better. Buddies coat is nice and shiny and his eyes sparkle. Buddy was very pleased to see Chris on sunday.  Justine and the team.

Thanks for your very kind offer, Buddy has all that he needs and doesnt really bother with toys etc as he is too intarested in his walkies. If you would like to send a small donation to alfies, then this will go towards all the other dogs. Thank you so very much for your kind offer. Justine

Alfie's team and of course Buddy really appreciate all the donations received for him . He is now fit and healthy. We feel he has settled in really well with Justine enjoying his country walks and the company of his doggy friends, We would like your opinions on wether he would be better to stay with Justine as he is a senior boy, to end his years with Justine's love and devotion. The intention was to re home him but up to this point no suitable home has been offered. As you all gave generously for his treatment we would really appreciate your views on this and wether you would be happy if he does stay with the family he has now,  Chrisxk9

i for one certainly dont have any doubts what-so-ever that Justine could give Buddy the very best of love, attention and care. No-one is as qualified in my book as i believe Justine to be, but......what does SHE want? If Justine thinks that Buddy would be better in a forever home as just an only dog then i will support her wish - however, if she choses to keep him with her and her brood then i will also support.

I also think that should he need any further treatment, as a Buddy to us all from the forum Justine would only need to mention the fact that he needs some help and any number of us would step forward to do what we could.

Sorry i cant help make up  Justines mind for her however i do say i will 100% support her final decision.

Good Luck! xx

I have to confess, that last night I fell asleep with Buddy on the spare bed and woke up at 5am with all my dogs around me and Buddy was still asleep in my arms. 1 single bed and 8 dogs!!! Justine

Hi all, talk about jam eh? Great to know Buddy's doing so well now and has found a great home to enjoy the rest of his days in peace.

And many may they be too!
